Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri
Executive Director, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI)
Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri is the Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and a recognized expert in sustainable development, public policy, food security, and climate change. He actively contributes to national and international policy discussions and has represented Pakistan in numerous official and civil society forums.
He serves on several prominent policy bodies, including the Advisory Council of the Asian Development Bank Institute. He also chairs the Board of Directors of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund and is a member of the Pakistan Climate Change Council, the Board of Directors of the Benazir Income Support Programme, and the Board of Governors of the National School of Public Policy.
Dr. Suleri has previously served on the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and the National Advisory Council of the Planning Commission of Pakistan from 2013 to 2022. He also coordinated the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Transformation Plan between 2021 and 2022.
His earlier roles include membership of the Finance Minister’s Task Force on Social Safety Nets, the Board of Directors of Pakistan State Oil, and several judicial commissions on environmental issues formed by Pakistan’s superior courts.
In addition to his policy work, he contributes to international initiatives and forums related to sustainable development and climate governance. He is an academic contributor and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Development Policy, Research, and Practice. Dr. Suleri holds a PhD in Food Security from the University of Greenwich, United Kingdom.
